RACING

Racing is available throughout the South West, Nationally and Internationally and applies to all age groups from juniors to veterans.  Racing is available all year round, although most of the racing takes place during the summer months.

The Club’s main racing focus is on the WEARA circuit. This is made up of 11 club regattas across the South West of England. The 11 WEARA regattas run from June to August (inclusive), culminating in the South Coast Championships at the beginning of September.

Racing at the WEARA regattas takes place over courses of between 500m and 2000m in length, depending on the location. We also take part in longer races, up to 9 miles long, outside the regatta season.

During the 11 races, points are awarded for 1st 2nd and 3rd, which are accumulated to form a championship table for each status. The winners of each status (A (most senior), B and C) represent WEARA at a combined championship of all the south coast clubs in September of each year - The South Coast Champs.  This is organised by a different host club each year.

As mentioned above, Juniors, Adults and Veterans can train to race not only on the WEARA racing circuit, but across England and Wales and internationally. There is the annual Henley Regatta of course, as well as hotly contested events leading up to that prestigious event.  For veterans, there is Henley Vets, the National Vets, as well as the FISA World Masters, which takes place in a different host country every year at the end of the Season (September).   Of course, even if you qualify to row in veteran status, if you’re fighting fit, there is nothing to stop you competing in the regular racing events too.

RACING COSTS

WEARA Regattas per race from £4.00 (can vary)

This covers the cost of staging the regatta, umpires, safety boats etc.

boat towing fee : £ variable depending on distance.
This is to pay for the fuel to tow the boats to The racing venue and is dependent on how far it is and how many people are racing. This is typically around £6.
